I [Danny] was born in Batavia, New York. He moved with his parents and two sisters to Ellensburg, Washington in 1953. He attended elementary school in Ellensburg.
In 1960 our family moved Houghton, New York when Dad accepted the challenge to begin the Department of Business at Houghton College. I attended Fillmore School through grade 9, I graduated from High School at Houghton Academy [1966] and received my BS degree from Houghton College [1970]. Many summers were spent working in a variety of Christian camps.
Following college I spent the summer in northern British Columbia, working with the North American Indian Mission. I worked a brief time in Wyoming, New York for Circle L Ranch. In 1971 joined the staff at Transylvania Bible Scool [TBS], Freeport, Pennsylvania.
In July of that year I married Glenda Andrews, my college sweetheart. Our son Andrew was born in June 1972. In the following winter we moved to Houghton to help my parents build a new home and by summer made another cross country move, this time to work at Warm Beach Camp near Stanwood, Washington. Our daughter, Cami, was born that first summer [1973]. I held a number of positions including cook, food service manager and business manager.
In 1979 we took a year leave of absence from the camp to work with Compassion Relief and Development on a water project on the island of LaGonave, Haiti. We returned to the camp for just one year before joining Compassion International [headquartered in Colorado Springs].
Cami & Andy circa 1980
We lived in Haiti for 12 more years as Country Director. We then moved
to Colorado Springs to work in the Area Office for Middle America.
Over the next 12 years a variety of assignments including living and
working in Deefield Beach, Florida, Managua, Nicaragua and Campanis,
Brazil. I worked as a Finance Specialist, Field Support Specialist,
interim Country Director, and finally as Associate Area Director.
In 2007 we moved once again, back to the North West and are now settled
near Warm Beach, Washington, near our retired parents and our daughter
and her family [3 grandchildren].
I am retired and, after a 26 year break, Glenda
works part time at the Warm Beach Camps & Conference Center. We
are members of the Warm Beach Free Methodist Church.
One of my hobbies over the past 15 years has been family research. Our
family database contains over 3000 individuals and 1000 marriages. One
family line goes back to 1501. In December 2000, produced a family
history for the Koch/Cook family. In 2005 a document was prepared on
William Lyall [1795-1868]. In 1835 William was sent to the United
States from Scotland as a missionary for the Congregational Union of
Scotland.
